Peter is Principal Lecturer and Head of Department for Marketing, Innovation, Leisure and Enterprise at University of Wolverhampton. Prior to entering academia Peter gained experience in the public, private and voluntary sectors within tourism, hospitality and events management, including senior management roles with The National Trust and Derby University as Tourism Projects Manager overseeing a range of EU funded business support projects.
Peter has worked as a business development consultant (mainly within the leisure sector) with a number of high profile clients across the UK. Peter has gained experience developing businesses in the tourism, events, automotive, retail and IT sectors. He is currently a Trustee of the Museum of Carpet and Elvaston Castle and Gardens Trust.
He is a Member of The Tourism Society and The Tourism Management Institute, and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy The Institute for Travel and Tourism Management (and a member of the ITT Education and Training Committee).
Peter especially enjoys opportunities to work closely with businesses to provide advice and expertise, to develop projects and to ensure his teaching is underpinned by contemporary knowledge of the leisure sector. This is further evidenced through the work that his department delivers for industry, including Knowledge Transfer (KEEN) projects and a number of consultancy projects.
Peter’s research explores photography (he is a keen photographer), nostalgia, authenticity, urban exploration and visitor experiences. He has presented his research at international conferences and has published widely through trade publications, academic journals and a number of edited and co-authored books.

Peter enjoys spending time with his two sons and his fiancée, visiting unusual tourist sites. He has a passion for the countryside and enjoys outdoor activities including walking, cycling and visiting unusual tourist attractions. Peter enjoys learning new driving skills, both on and off-road, and has rebuilt and restored a number of vehicles. Peter takes an active role in organizing a number of fundraising events for local charities, including a major annual Art Show to raise funds for his older son’s previous school.
