Consultant Experience

Consultant and Project Director specialising in the cultural, heritage and business tourism sectors with expertise founded on senior appointments held over a lengthy career.

Business Tourism
Early career in management of international trade exhibitions - mostly overseas projects. Principal Director of Exhibition Consultants Ltd (ECL - part of Angus Montgomery Ltd 1976-current). Assignments diverse and world-wide ranging from feasibility studies for new trade fair and convention centres in Hong Kong, Bangkok and Indonesia to project direction of Lagos and Khartoum International Fairs and All-Africa Fair, Lagos 1977. Exhibition consultancy, project direction and training studies in over twenty countries.

Project Director for operation and marketing of Liverpool International Garden Festival 1984. In six months the Festival attracted 3.4 million visits and commenced Liverpool's transformation into a tourist destination.

Heritage, Museums and Cultural Tourism
1990-96 Chief Executive of the Mary Rose Trust, one of UK's most prestigious independent museum and conservation projects. 1997-2000 Project Director for new Royal Artillery Museum at Royal Arsenal, Woolwich.
2000-3 With English Heritage as Project Director of a new visitor centre scheme for Stonehenge, England's premier World Heritage site (£26 million Heritage Lottery award).

Recent Activities
1999-2005 served on Council of Reading University (UK)and advised on their new Museum of rural life.
2003-5 promoted British expertise in tourism for the UKTI and organised and participated in several tourism overseas consultancy trade missions. Specialist cultural tourism study of Taiwan for UKTI in 2012.
2006-14 Consultant to England's Historic Royal Palaces organisation - various projects. Advice on a new cultural exhibition centre for Hong Kong
2010 consultancy team member advising on the cultural presentation of the Daming Palace, Xi'an China (World Heritage site)- with Oxford Archaeology.

2014 - advising on the business tourism potential of a major sports venue.
