The so-called 'Gove Effect' has had a huge impact on tourism in the Westcountry over the last 18 months, with changes to Education Regulations applying tighter restrictions on holidays in term time.  This has resulted in an £87 million loss of business to the visitor economies of Devon and Cornwall.

Lobbying is ongoing, in parallel with many businesses having to change their target audiences and pricing strategies.

This event will give an opportunity to share in latest post-election developments, as well as ideas for business developments to mitigate the effects.  Confirmed speakers to date include:

There will be plenty of opportunity for debate, discussion and sharing of ideas.

Before the discussions starts there will be the opportunity for behind the scenes 'Taster Tours' of Castle Drogo and the event will end with an informal buffet supper.

Intended timings are:

4 - 4.15 Arrival, tea/coffee 
4.15 - 5.15 Taster tours of Castle Drogo
5.15 - 5.30 Tourism Society Westcountry AGM
5.30 - 6.45 Meeting, presentations, discussion & buffet supper
7 Departure

Members and Non-Members of Tourism Society are very welcome. (The AGM will be very short, with non-members welcome to observe.)
