UK Crisis Management: How to prepare and react
19th September 2012
Central London
The tourism industry is arguably one of the most important sources of income and foreign exchange, and is growing rapidly. However, national and international crises have huge negative economic consequences. In the past seven years we have seen an unusually high concentration of crisis events: Foot and Mouth, September 11th, SARS, the Gulf War, the Asian tsunami, hurricanes, floods, bombs, and avian flu have all hit the headlines and had a knock-on effect on travel and tourism businesses.
This event aims to illustrate the theories and actions that can be taken to better understand consumer, economic and environmental reaction, in order for the businesses involved to be more prepared for such events and to have learnt from the lessons of recent events. The session will cover:
- the marketing response to crisis events
- how price-cuts can help or hinder recovery
- the vital role of communication
- the possible long-term effects of crisis
