Now entering its second decade, TSS has expanded its Committee and is developing plans for a compelling 2009/10 programme with events being organised across the Central Belt and in the North on themes that range from cultural heritage and destination marketing to technology and education and in partnership with other Scottish organisations. There will be a political event in advance of national elections and also a review of the impact of devolution on tourism. A series of study tours is also planned. TSS will actively support networking across all sectors of travel and tourism and encourage student involvement and professional development. TSS will also continue to respond to consultations and contribute to the tourism agenda in Scotland and internationally. For further information, please contact scotland@tourismsociety.org.
Tourism Society Wales was launched in November 2003 with the aim of providing a professional networking basis in Wales. John Walsh-Heron FTS (current Chair) and Julie Russell (vice Chair) coordinate a programme of themed meetings underpinned by social networking events. Some activities are held in association with other professional bodies such as a Digital Marketing event, which was also of interest to members of the CIMA. The network has also introduced an annual award for an individual’s contribution to tourism in Wales.
The Yorkshire chapter of the Tourism Society is now well established, regularly attracting between 40 and 50 guests to each event.
Launched in 2004, Tourism Society Cumbria provides a forum for members from around the North West of England to meet and debate a wide variety of issues affecting the tourism industry. The chapter, chaired by Charles Thornton MTS of Eden District Council, organizes several meetings a year at The Castle Green Hotel near Kendal. If you are based in the region please join us at a future event.
The Tourism Society's Devon & Cornwall Network was launched in Spring 2004. Initial meetings held in Falmouth and Plymouth during July and October 2003 endorsed the need for professional networking opportunities in Devon and Cornwall.
