In Memory of Victor Middleton

Thursday August 16, 2018

It is with sincere regret that we announce the passing of Professor Victor T.C. Middleton OBE, FTS. Victor died on Monday in a hospital near his home in Ulverston, Cumbria after a short illness. Tributes have been pouring in from colleagues and friends of which he had many in the Tourism Society.

Victor was a founding member, and many of his contributions are still in place after four decades. He made a huge impact on the organization and its members, as well as the travel and tourism industry as a whole. Kevin Kaley, Chair of the Tourism Society said, “Victor was an inspiration, his speech last year at the 40th anniversary of the Tourism Society was full of his usual great insight, he will be missed by all”.  Victor's close friend and colleague, Ken Robinson said "Victor earned the respect of many, and his wisdom never dimmed.  It is a mark of his impact that most of today's key people in tourism began their interest and developed their knowledge when reading his most recognised work titled Marketing in Travel and Tourism.”

Victor's family has asked not to be contacted at present and would appreciate privacy during this very sad time. There is likely to be a memorial service for Victor - further details to be advised.
