About ATTT
In 1975, the Association of Teachers of Tourism was established with
the aim of helping its members to be more effective teachers of tourism
and in 1981 the Association merged with The Tourism Society and formed
a specialist section within it. The common aims of The Tourism Society
were embraced.
The title 'Association of Tourism Teachers and Trainers' was adopted
in 1988 to reflect the wider involvement in the field of vocational
training in tourism.
The affairs of the ATTT are organised by a voluntary Committee elected
from the membership. The Chairman is an ex-officio member of the Council
of The Tourism Society.
ATTT is committed to improving the body of knowledge in tourism education
and to provide tools for tourism educators and trainers. The Tourism
Education Handbook is a comprehensive resource for best education practice
in tourism.
The specific aims of ATTT are to:
- Facilitate
networking and interaction between tourism educators and trainers
at all levels.
- Provide a forum
for discussion of matters relating to tourism education and training.
- Act as a pressure
group to promote high standards of professionalism in tourism education
and training.
- Extend links
and partnership between education and training interests and employers
in all sectors of the industry.
- Encourage collaboration
with the industry and the exchange of ideas .
- Represent and
advise The Tourism Society and other bodies on tourism education
and tourism training matters.
- Assist members
who have recently made the transition from industry into tourism
teaching and training.
- Promote exchanges
and diffusion of good practice in tourism education and training.
- Enable tourism
teachers and trainers to have a corporate affiliation in the multi-faceted
and widely diverse sector of tourism.
