Aviva Pearson FTS was elected as the new Chairwoman of the Tourism Society this week during the Society’s annual conference at Beaulieu, Hampshire on 05 July.
On taking on the role, Pearson, who has been a member of the Society since 2004, said, “I am looking forward to continuing the over 30 years of excellent work driven by the Tourism Society and galvanising the tourism industry with the help of the new board. Our board covers every sector within the industry and the fact that they are all so passionate, enthusiastic and respected makes me very proud to be the new Chairwoman. There are so many exciting challenges ahead that by working together, all of us in tourism, we can help shape the future of the visitor economy in the United Kingdom. I would suggest that everyone should keep an eye on us as we will be moving in a new and exciting direction.”
Pearson takes over from outgoing Chairman Alison Cryer FTS. Cryer had completed the maximum four-year term in the post, during which she oversaw the Society’s successful integration with the Tourism Management Institute and the development of the Corporate Partnership and Corporate Membership programmes. “It has been a privilege to work with such a dedicated Executive Committee and Board at the Society,” said Cryer, “and I would encourage everyone in tourism to support the Society’s work in drawing the industry’s many sectors together. I wish Aviva every success.”
Four new board members were also elected at the AGM. Robin Barker MTS, Peter Cole FTS, Phil Long FTS and Sandra Matthews Marsh MTS take their seats, and are joined by Carole Sherlock MTS who has a seat in her role as Chair of Tourism Society Scotland.
