OLYMPIC BID TEAM WINS TOURISM SOCIETY ACCOLADE
The London Olympic Bid Team has been awarded the 2005 Tourism Society Award (15 November 2005).
The Award, given to organisations or individuals that have made an outstanding contribution to UK tourism, was presented at the Society's annual dinner at St Stephen's Club, Westminster.
Handing the Award to Mike Power, who was Chief Operating Officer of the successful bid team, Lord Thurso, the Society's President said: 'The remarkable effort by everyone involved in the bid has given our tourism industry, throughout the UK, an opportunity to rise to the occasion, give a global audience a quality experience, and make every visitor welcome and wanting to come back for more'.
Mike Power, receiving the Award, thanked the Society for the accolade. He said 'We have seen the huge benefits which the Olympics can bring to the host nation, and welcoming visitors from across the world was, and continues to be, central to our planning for 2012.'
