Last night (24 October) at a glittering gala dinner held at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester, Penrith Tourist Information Centre staff were highly commended for their excellent customer service skills after just missing out on the North West Tourist Information Centre of the Year Award for 2006, by only a single point!! |
| The winner was Congleton TIC, Cheshire. Eden District Council's TIC Network Manager Charles Thornton said: " Our congratulation to Congleton, but I am highly delighted that Penrith TIC was awarded 'Highly Commended' status. This award reflects the sheer hard work and enthusiasm of our staff to give visitors to Penrith and the Eden Valley the very best customer service ." |

The Tourism Society would like to contratulate Penrith TIC. Charles Thornton is a board member of the Society and Chairman David Curtis-Brignell stated "I am absolutely delighted to congratulate Charles and his team for their achievement."
Penrith TIC was against stiff opposition to achieve its highly commended recognition with the best TICS from around the region including Saddleworth, Morecambe and the Liverpool '08 Place competing for awards. The judges based their decision on the results of a professional mystery shopper programme, which was run throughout the Northwest in conjunction with the Northwest Regional Development Agency. Last year Penrith TIC welcomed over 50,000 visitors from all over the world and has developed a range of services of the years that now include:
