The Family Holiday Association

The Family Holiday Association is the only national charity dedicated to providing seaside breaks and day trips for families coping with some of the toughest challenges life can bring.

We help UK families struggling with problems such as severe and long-term illness, bereavement, mental health issues, disability and domestic violence. Each family is referred to us by someone already working with them in a supporting role, such as a teacher or social worker.

Evidence shows that our work results in stronger, healthier and happier families and communities.

From the very early days of the charity in 1975, the support of the travel and tourism industry has played an important role in the charity’s activities. Over 40 years later we continue to develop new and innovative ways of engaging and working with our industry colleagues to help even more families to get a break.

In 2016, VisitScotland’s ScotSpirit campaign provided the springboard for a pioneering new collaboration between the charity, the national tourism organisation and partners across the Scottish tourism industry. As a direct result more than 250 struggling families experienced life-changing short breaks or days out creating memories that will last a lifetime. We are delighted that the ScotSpirit initiative is being repeated in 2017. It builds on previous work with organisations such as Visit Kent, Visit York and provides an industry inclusive model that can replicated almost anywhere.

Increasing access to tourism has clear benefits to the industry, introducing new people to the joys of days out and time away from home, creating new destination ambassadors and of course, increasing spend.

The Family Holiday Association is delighted to be supporting the Tourism Symposium 2017 and look forward to meeting many of you at the event.
